The other reason I've been absent lately: I'm going to blog for Atlanta.net's new site. My blog is labeled "Fashion," but will focus more on budget and indie thrills in the Atlanta area. We launch in a few weeks, but we're already creating content, and I'm currently working on reviews (w/ photos) of two thrift stores (Thrift House & Junior League), West Egg, and The Shoemaker's Warehouse.

Here are my questions: what would persuade you to read a local blog? What would make it useful? What do you want to know about your city, but can't find in local mainstream media?

14th Street Antiques & West Egg

I had a great day Sunday.  First, we went to West Egg, my favorite brunch spot in Atlanta.  It's well-priced and has free Wi-fi, satisfying comfort food, and a laid-back, collegiate atmosphere.  I got the spicy black bean cakes and rosemary potatoes--delicious.

After brunch, we visited 14th Street Antiques (first time for me).  It's awesome.  While most antique shops are fun to hunt through, 14th Street Antiques has several advantages.  First, it's huge.  Tons of merchandise, from handbags to furniture to books to weird crap like the "Flesh Eating Piranhas" banner above.  Second, no matter how broke you are, you can afford something there--and even the expensive stuff is reasonable.  Third, they really focus on presentation.  It's clean and spacious, and everything's arranged in tableaux to give merchandise context.  Fourth, the staff is friendly in a hands-off kind of way (i.e. no nervous hovering while you explore the store).  Highly recommended.

While there, I bought 3 L'Officiels from the 60s (more on these later) & took a lot of fuzzy photos (sorry).  Below are pics of a striking white sofa & chair set ($1600), fat Chinese horses (why are they fat?), a vivid red tableau, and a Jetsons-inspired table.  More photos after the jump.
